Like most of you out there, I once wanted to be a storm chaser. I think it was about the time the movie Twister came out. I mean, it took place in Oklahoma for crying out loud. I envisioned myself driving my truck amongst the flying cattle, dodging fence posts miraculously, and making fun of some loser male who wanted to be like me.
Now those of you who know my family know that my father and, before him, my grandmother have always been obsessed with the weather. My dad would stand outside as the twirling wall cloud went overhead and tell us all how we needed to be inside. I couldn't wait until I got old enough to defy logic and stand out there too. Ah the dreams of a young man...
Anyway, now that I am older (and possibly wiser), I have come to realize a few things. One, storm chasers don't get paid enough and the job overall seems less cool now. I mean, after all, who wants to get beat to death by hail just so they can be on the news via a crappy cell phone connection. Two, this job might be kinda dangerous. I haven't seen or heard of anyone getting sucked up into a tornado like in the movies, but I am sure the close calls are many.
So after all this, I have come to the conclusion that playing armchair meteorologist is the way to go after all. I get to complain about not enough rain, too much rain, gee this wind is something else and say things like "back when I was a boy we had REAL winter". Praise the Lord for saving me from my own lunacy!

being sick and how that affects football
So I broke down and went to the doctor after having a lousy day at work and a fever. Man, I have to tell you, I haven't felt that bad in years. I have always been blessed not to be one of those people that gets sick all the time. My wife says I am quite a wienie about it when I am (and I suppose she is right). She says it is a man thing. Anywho, I had been taking this stuff called Theraflu and it is a weird one. From freezing to death to being covered in sweat....yuck! I thought I was getting better and then it hit me. What is that scratchy feeling on the backside of my tongue? So as an investigative reporter type, I went to the kids bathroom with a flashlight to see...and yep....you guessed it...small white specks of something nasty on my tonsils. I knew what this meant. As a teenager, I used to get this all the time. Go to the doctor; swab your tonsils; give you some antibiotics...no strep though. This time was different. Doc said test was positive. Same treatment though...interesting.
So what does this have to do with football? Nothing really...more like an impact on cheerleading signups and sizing. You see, I am the treasurer for HYFCA (a lovely acronym I created a couple of years ago). I was supposed to be there...to take the money..duh! Alas, the doctor told me I was contagious and I told him, "you don't know the half of it" j/k. So I missed my first big task of the year. Fwiw, I made it tonight and suprisingly, they did just fine without me. Bummer! I wanted to be THE GUY!!! :-)

first time for everything
So I know a few people out there who blog and decided I'd give it a try. Things in life are starting to pick up. Both kids are busy with baseball/softball and I have decided to be on the HYFCA board again as treasurer (this one will be interesting). Today, as I type, the Final Four has begun. As you can tell, I am a big sports person. Football tops the list, but baseball and basketball are in there too. My beautiful wife, Marla, made and delivered a cheesecake from her dessert business - Dessert Girl. You should check it out on Facebook (shameless plug). She also made cupcakes for my friend Kevin's Wrestlemania party. Go John Cena! Yes, I admit I watch it and have a favorite. I usually blame Jake for the whole thing. I wonder what a night may hold for me tonight as Jake is going to a friend's house. We still have Mylie with us but she is....how do you say....less wreckless. Those of you with children know what I mean. While I was typing this, we shipped the boy off. Let the fun begin!!!
